When you think of November, what comes to mind? Election Day? Final Exams? Thanksgiving? There is also another important item in November to be involved with – No Shave November. According to the No Shave November website, No-Shave November is a month-long journey during which participants forgo shaving and grooming in order to evoke conversation and raise cancer awareness. The goal of No-Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing [our] hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free. In addition, donating money typically spent on shaving and grooming to educate about cancer prevention, save lives, and aid those fighting the battle. Strict dress-code at work? Don’t worry about it! We encourage participation of any kind; grooming and trimming are perfectly acceptable.
Likewise, you might see a bit of competition of who can grow the best beard, but if it starts a conversation and awareness of cancer support and prevention that’s the main purpose. Also, it’s fun to see the different styles of various facial hair. Some will grow full floor length wizard beards. Others will sport the thick and fluffy lumberjack beards. And there are those that can’t quite grow any more than a shadow on their face.
